The Zamzam well is a sacred freshwater spring at the Kaaba.
This arose between the two hills of Saffa and Marwah, as Hajar, the wife of Abraham (as), between these hills in a desperate search for water for her son Ismail (as) ran seven times back and forth. When they exhausted to Ishmael (as) returned she found a bubbling spring. This act symbolizes that the person must make every effort to reach the clean water, but the success lies solely with Allah through His grace.
